new year test STDLots of chaps make New Year resolutions, but most give up on them by now. If there’s one thing you should never give up on, it’s your commitment to sexual health.

You should know about common STIs such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis and HIV, however there are other STI-related infections which are less commonly known – and Chappie says they are on the rise.

Prostatitis: This is a general term to describe swelling of the prostate gland. Symptoms include pain and problems with urinating, pain during climax, and general discomfort in the lower areas. Prostatitis is a tricky one – it can usually be treated with a heavy course of antibiotics if the cause is bacterial infection however, in most cases bacteria is not the cause.

Epididymo-Orchitis: This is literally the inflammation (swelling) of your balls. In young men, the most common cause of Orchitis is Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia, as well as urine infections (more common in men over 35). Aside from the swelling, symptoms include sensitivity, tenderness and pain. In most cases, antibiotics work well to clear the infection.

These STI-related infections are no death sentence, by they do appear quickly, and may cause serious damage if left untreated, so make sure you visit your clinic immediately if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
