Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Infections are a rising issue today. We all know you have to be careful where you put your chap, but it can be a bit more complicated than that. HIV and other sexually transmitted infections are continually rising, especially among young people. As casual sex is now a rather expected norm.
Now, Chappie knows that going to the doctor for an STI can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. But STIs can lead to severe health problems if left untreated. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are roughly 20 million cases of STIs each year, and half of those cases are among people 15-24. That’s quite the number.
The most common STIs in the U.K. are Chlamydia and Genital Warts. Those sound like fun, right? Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that while is more common in women can still affect men. Because Chlamydia doesn’t always cause symptoms, it can be spread from partner to partner without anyone even realizing they have it. Even though it can be treated with antibiotics, who really wants a sore chap for a few weeks?
Genital Warts are actually caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) which there is no cure for. Warts however, may go away over time on their own, but who wants to risk a bunch of warts on their member? Chappie sure doesn’t!
Now I know you’re dying to know, ‘How do we prevent these STIs?’ Well the answer is quite simple: condoms. By simply wearing a condom you can prevent getting this nasty little thing from your sex partner.
Preventing genital warts is a little different. Wearing a condom can also help prevent genital warts, however, condoms don’t always cover all infected areas. Genital warts can spread to surrounding skin, which may not be covered by a condom during sex. Another way to help protect yourself against genital warts and HPV is to get the vaccine. The vaccine was originally approved for only women, as they are at a higher risk of getting HPV, but now is also approved for men.
So, next time you are going to have unprotected sex, think about all the pain and trouble your chap might go through. Because these are only the two of the most common STIs, there are many, many more that can be even more painful and even life threatening. So take a moment, and think about your Chap.
