It’s one of life’s greatest pleasures and it turns out having sex is beneficial to your health!
That’s if you practice it safely of course. We don’t mean a hard hat and a high vis vest, we mean using a condom for your little man.
Here are 3 ways sex can actually be beneficial to your health;
- 1) It improves your mood
If you’re grinning like a Cheshire cat after you’ve had some hanky-panky, it’s clear you’ve had a good time. During the lovemaking a cocktail of happy hormones are released. You may have heard of Oxytocin and Serotonin? These are the body’s key antidepressants chemicals that make people feel happy and calm. Feeling unhappy? It’s time to sweet-talk your partner and have some nakie fun…
- 2) It’s good for your health
Technically, sex counts as a form of exercise. It uses muscles, gets your heart racing and is the equivalent as going for a mile-long walk. A University in Belfast found that having sex 3 times a week could actually halve the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Not only that, it might even protect you from getting a cold! Having sex regularly has been linked with higher levels of immunoglobulin A, a substance found in saliva which is thought to help our immune systems fight colds and flu.
- 3) You live longer
One of the largest studies on longevity and sex which was conducted on Welsh men (lucky buggers), found that those who had sex less than once a month had double the risk of dying prematurely compared to those that had sex twice a week!
Scientists say it’s down to the sex hormone known as DHEA, this hormone functions as a building block of other hormones. DHEA levels rise just before orgasm and some claim this is how regular sex can prolong your life.
Well there you have it.
As if we need an excuse to have more sex?
Just make sure you’re having it safely, and if you do need to get checked, The Walk in Clinic, London is a private clinic to help you be discreet about your sexual health.
