It’s that time of year chaps where us men don our finest fuzzy lip warmer all in the name of charity. I don’t know about you, chaps, but I currently look like the love child of Hulk Hogan and Albert Einstein.
Now, we all should know the concept of Movember by now. Us chaps grow a moustache in order to raise money, and awareness, surrounding men’s health. Predominantly prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
As incredibly important as all of these issues are, I am going to be exploring the world of mental health today. I understand it’s a heavy subject, chaps. But, when it boils down to it, these conversations (and moustaches) are worth having to raise awareness for such an important issue. And there are no excuses for you to keep quiet either.
I’m looking at you over there, Dave. ‘Not wanting to cause a fuss’ isn’t a good enough excuse to bottle up how you’re feeling. If you’re feeling unusually down, talk to someone. Whether it be a friend, family member or a complete stranger (ok, maybe not the complete stranger for fear of getting a restraining order). But you get the gist, chaps. Getting your thoughts and feelings off your chest will relieve a lot of what you’re feeling and will help in the long run.
Just take a look at the stats; 4 in 5 suicides are by men and for men in England and Wales between the ages of 20 and 49, the biggest cause of death is suicide. These statistics alone should be enough to get you chaps talking. I know my aunt Mavis has a moustache that can rival my own (which is an impressive feat) but we need to stand together chaps.
Remember, it is manly to talk about things.
Whether it be to your other half, a family member, your best mate or your dog after several beers, conversations with your loved ones will help infinitely. I can promise you that, chaps.
And to all you Mo Brothers and Mo Sisters out there who don’t have the enormous privilege of being able to grow a crackin’ ‘tashe, continue to do all you can to support your boyfriends, dad, brothers and friends.
